# Assign a task to someone

In a shared list, put someone's name on a task, and let them know.

Section: Share & collaborate

## Assign a task

1. Open a task that lives in a [shared list](https://kairo.jaimansoni.com/support/sharing-lists).
2. Expand **Assignee**.
3. Pick a person, or **Anyone** to leave it unassigned.

> **Note:** The Assignee row only appears for tasks in a shared list. There's nobody to assign a private task to.

## What the other person gets

They get a push notification, **📋 Alex assigned you a task**, if they've [enabled notifications](https://kairo.jaimansoni.com/support/notifications). The task then carries their avatar as a chip.

When a task is assigned to **you**, the chip is highlighted, so scanning any view tells you what's yours.

## Assignment is a hint, not a lock

Anyone on the list can still see, edit and complete an assigned task. Kairo marks who's expected to do it; it doesn't fence anyone out.

> **Note:** You can only assign to people who are actually on that list, Kairo checks on the server, not just in the interface.
