# Keep notes

Pages inside pages, with toggles, tables, links between pages and live Kairo tasks. Organise them your way.

Section: Notes

## Pages inside pages

**Notes** is where anything bigger than a task lives: a plan, meeting notes, a recipe, a page for everything about one project. Every page can hold more pages, so your notes grow into a shape that fits you.

On a computer it's in the sidebar, or press `6`. The panel beside your pages shows the whole tree, and `Ctrl+\` hides it. On a phone, tap the round notes button in the bottom-right corner; inside Notes the same button makes a new page.

- **Organise** by dragging pages in the panel: onto the top or bottom edge of a page to reorder, onto its middle to put it inside. Or use a page's ⋯ menu and **Move to…**.
- **Favorites** sit at the top of the panel. Tap the star on any page.
- **Templates** give a blank page a shape to start from: meeting notes, a project brief, reading notes, a weekly review.

## Writing on a page

Type `/` anywhere for the full list of blocks. Formatting also happens as you type:

| Key | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| `# ` | Heading, or `## ` and `### ` for smaller ones |
| `[ ] ` | To-do list |
| `- ` | Bulleted list |
| `1. ` | Numbered list |
| `> ` | Quote |
| ````` | Code block |
| `@ or [[` | Link to another page, or make a new one |
| `⌘⇧↑ / ⌘⇧↓` | Move the block you're in up or down |
| `⌘D` | Duplicate the block you're in |
| `⌘P` | Find any page |

Hover a block to see its handle: drag it to move the block, click it to turn the block into another kind, duplicate it or delete it, or **+** to add a block below. Select words to make them bold, colour them, highlight them, or link them.

> **Good to know:** Paste Markdown straight in, from a chat with an assistant or a README, and it arrives as real headings, lists, checkboxes and tables.

## Toggles, tables and callouts

- **Toggle lists** tuck details away until you open them. Click the arrow to open or close one.
- **Tables** grow with **+ Row** and **+ Column** in the bar above them. Drag a column's edge to widen it.
- **Callouts** make something stand out. Click the emoji to change it.
- **Sub-pages** made with `/` then **Page** appear as a link on the page they live in.

## Kairo tasks inside notes

A line of a note can become a real Kairo task. Select the words and tap **✓ Task**, use a block's handle and **Make it a Kairo task**, or type `/task`. What you type is read the same way Capture reads it, so "pay rent friday" is planned for Friday.

The task shows on the page as a live chip: tick it there and it's ticked everywhere in Kairo, and the other way round.

## Icons, covers and the page menu

- Hover over a page's title for **Add icon** and **Add cover**. Click either later to change it.
- The ⋯ menu sets the font, small text and full width for that page.
- **Lock page** stops a page from being edited by accident, on every device, until you unlock it.
- **Linked from** at the bottom of a page lists every page that links to it.

## Trash

Deleting a page moves it and every page inside it to the **Trash**, with an **Undo** straight away. Restore it from the Trash for 30 days; after that it's deleted for good.

## Saving, offline, and two devices

Pages save as you type, and everything is kept on your device first, so a dropped connection or a closed tab doesn't lose words. If the same page changes on two devices at once, nothing is overwritten: Kairo lets you **Keep both**, keep yours, or use the other one.

- Assistants you connect to Kairo can only use your notes if you tick **Include notes** on their [connection key](https://kairo.jaimansoni.com/support/connect-ai). They can search, read, make pages and add to them, but never delete or rewrite one.
- **Export as Markdown** from a page's ⋯ menu. Everything at once is downloadable too, even after a subscription has ended.
- Deleting your account deletes every page, trash included.
