# Turn on notifications

Get a ping when a focus timer ends, when a reminder fires, or when someone assigns you a task, even with Kairo closed.

## Turn them on

1. Open your profile (your avatar, top right on mobile, bottom of the sidebar on desktop).
2. Under **Notifications**, click **Enable**.
3. Allow notifications when your browser asks.

The button then reads **On ✓**, and a **Send a test notification** link appears, use it to confirm the whole chain works.

## What Kairo will send

| Notification | When |

| **🔔 Task name** | A [reminder](https://kairo.jaimansoni.com/support/reminders) you set arrives |
| **📋 Someone assigned you a task** | A person [assigns you](https://kairo.jaimansoni.com/support/assigning) work in a shared list |

That's the complete list. Kairo will never send you a nag about being behind, a broken streak, or an unopened app.

## On iPhone and iPad

> **Heads up:** Safari only delivers push to **installed** web apps. Add Kairo to your home screen first (Share → **Add to Home Screen**), open it from there, and then enable notifications from inside that app. iOS 16.4 or later is required.

## Sound and vibration

- Notifications use your device's normal notification sound and a short vibration, and stay on screen until you dismiss them.
- If a Kairo tab is open when one arrives, it also plays a soft two-note chime.
- Custom notification sounds aren't possible on the web, browsers don't support them.

## If enabling fails

Kairo tells you exactly what went wrong rather than failing silently:

| Message | Fix |
| --- | --- |
| Push needs a secure connection | You're on an address like `192.168.x.x`. Push only works over HTTPS or on `localhost`. |
| Blocked, allow notifications for this site | You (or the browser) denied permission before. Tap the lock icon in the address bar, allow notifications, then try again. |
| This browser doesn't support push | Use Chrome, Edge, or an installed app on iPhone. |
| Couldn't enable: … | The detail is the real error, send it to us and we'll dig in. |

> **Note:** Notifications are also silenced by your operating system's Do Not Disturb or Focus modes. If the test ping doesn't arrive, check there too.
