# What makes Kairo different

Kairo is built around one idea: a to-do list should never make you feel bad. Here's what that changes.

## The problem Kairo solves

Most people abandon task apps within a few weeks, and it's rarely because a feature was missing. It's because the app turned into a scoreboard of failure, a wall of red, overdue items that makes opening it feel worse than avoiding it.

Kairo is designed around that moment. Everything here exists to keep a bad day from becoming a dead app.

## The four rules Kairo plays by

- **Nothing ever goes red.** There is no overdue count anywhere in Kairo. Unfinished work waits for you calmly.
- **The day is the unit.** [Today](https://kairo.jaimansoni.com/support/today) shows a short list you chose, not everything you've ever written down. The backlog stays out of sight until you ask for it.
- **Planning a day is not a deadline.** The day you intend to *do* something is separate from a real, external [deadline](https://kairo.jaimansoni.com/support/deadlines), and deadlines should be rare.
- **Falling behind is normal.** Each morning the [Fresh Start sweep](https://kairo.jaimansoni.com/support/fresh-start) helps you decide once about yesterday's leftovers, then moves on.

## What you won't find

Some omissions are deliberate. Kairo has no streaks, no productivity score, no priority levels, no nested folders, and no badge counting how far behind you are. Each of those is a well-documented reason people quit task apps.

> **Good to know:** The one hard limit in Kairo is **Spotlight**, which holds three tasks. It's a constraint, not a bug, three real wins is a good day.

## The shape of a normal day

1. **Morning.** Open Kairo. If anything is left over, the Fresh Start sweep asks what to do with it, one decision each.
2. **Plan.** Pull a few things into today from your inbox and star up to three as Spotlight.
3. **During the day.** Capture whatever lands in your head with `N`. Don't organize it, that's what planning time is for.
4. **Evening.** Check off what you did. Whatever's left is tomorrow's problem, and tomorrow will offer you a clean slate.
